My creative digital world

Creative digital industry–including  the production, creation and publishing of graphic design, film and television, digital visual and audio effects, mobile entertainment, interactive media and video games, has been the “in” thing in current modern society.

But how does digital technology help in our creative ideas? Does high-end technology equals to creative works? Where is the line between creative art and technology display?  How does the modern digital technology changes our way of life?

These are some of the questions that will be discussed in the talk– “My Creative Digital World”

“My Creative Digital World” is a talk held in conjunction with the launch of the book My Creative Room– a book that feature 20 local creative talents. During the talk , one of the creative talent Andrew Lam will be there to share his thoughts on creativity and  digital  technology.

 

Game Producer Andrew Lam

 

Andrew Lam is a game producer who has extensively involved in several pioneering projects in Singapore including HD format movie, animated feature and sci-fi movie. Projects included: “The Tree”, “Avatar”, “Sing to the Dawn”, “Unbeatables 3”, “Money not
enough 2” . He has worked on the classic gamebook series Lone Wolf IP into multi platform like comics, animanted series and electronic games too. Currently, Andre is doing part-time lecturering in Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Polytechnics and Lasalle College of the Arts.

My Creative Room is written by Chew Boon Leong (Lianhe Zaobao Reporter), Kong Kam Yoke (Film Critic) and Danny Yeo (Ngee Ann Poly Lecturer),  is a book that aims to raise funds for the Singapore International Film Festival 2009. The book will be available at the talk session. Suggested price is S$18 and All proceeds will be donated to SIFF.

 “我的创意数码世界”是配合《我的创意房间》而举行的讲座。《我的创意房间》，《我的创意房间》是由三名本地影评人周文龙、江金玉和杨君伟联合撰写的新书,纪录了20位极富潜质的新加坡创意人的灵感心路。在“我的创意数码世界”中，其中一位受访创意人蓝德勇将出席讲座，与观众分享他对创意和数码科技的看法。

蓝德勇是电脑游戏制作人，也参与过《曦望》、《双天至尊3》、《孩子树》等影视作品的电脑特效。目前，他在南洋理工大学、南洋理工学院和拉萨艺术学院担任兼职讲师。

 

《我的创意房间》是由三名本地影评人周文龙、江金玉和杨君伟联合撰写的新书。《我》书推荐价是18.00新币，书本所有发行收益一概全额捐赠给非牟利机构新加坡国际电影节2009。

Substation will be organising the talk “My Creative Producer” on 29 March 09 (Sun) 3pm at Substation theatre（45 Armenian Street）.

 

This talk is hosted by Kong Kam Yoke . Invited speakers include local film producer Leon Tong ( The Maid,  Love Story and Rule Number1)，Randy Ang (Co-Founder of Sinema Old School) and K.Rajagopal (actor and filmmaker) . Come join the these filmmakers to discover the challenges in film producing–an often neglected role in filmmaking.

Film Producer Leon Tong

Leon Tong is the founding partner of Boku Films. He has produced various film such as “1942”,“The Maid”, “Love Story” “Men In White” “Rule Number One”.

 

Sinema co-founder Randy Ang

Randy Ang is an award-winning designer/filmmaker who co-founded Sinema Old School (a first-and-only independent high-definition cinema dedicated to Singapore films) in December 2007. He is also the executive producer and art director of the cult-independent feature film “Becoming Royston” (2007) and the producer as well as marketing/creative director of feature film “The Days 岁月” (2008).

K.Rajagopal has vast experience in stage acting, film and television production. In theatre, he has worked with renowned directors like Julia Bradsley, Ariffin Noer, and Krishen Jit. His short films – I Can’t Sleep Tonight (1995), The Glare (1996) and Absence (1997) – won the Special Jury Prize at the Singapore International Film Festival for three consecutive years.

Karen Thiem’s  feature film art directing debut was the independent film, Gone Shopping (directed by Wee Li Lin). She has previously co-art directed Love Story (directed by Kelvin Tong), Flat Dreams (short film directed by Eva Tang) and Just Follow Law (directed by Jack Neo).

“My Creative Producer” is part of the  promotion events  for the book My Creative Room.  My Creative Room–written and edited by Chew Boon Leong, Kong Kam Yoke and Danny Yeo , is the first local book to focus on local media industry’s behind-the-scene creative process. It features 20 profiles of Singapore’s up-and-coming media talents, and seek to understand the motivations and inspirations that drive them.

 

As a display of the local media community’s unity and mutual support for each other’s efforts,  the public could obtained My Creative Room with a donation (book is valued at S$18) during the talk. All proceeds from the sale of My Creative Room will go to Singapore International Film Festival 2009

“我的创意制作人”讲座

 

    新加坡电力站将于3月29日下午3时，在电力站小剧场举办“我的创意制作人“讲座。

 

　　讲座由本地影评人江金玉主持，邀请本地青年电影制作人唐永良，Sinema创始人洪温汉、演员兼电影导演KRajagopal，分享他们在电影制作——一个经常被忽略的拍摄过程，各种不同的经验和心得。

 

    唐永良为Boku电影公司的创始人之一，也是本地知名的电影制作人，制作过的电影作品包括《女佣》、《爱情故事》、《第一戒》等。

 

    洪温汉是本地一家专门放映本地电影的戏院Sinema的创始人，他也担任过电影制作人，制作的电影作品包括《效仿陈子谦》、《岁月》等。

 

    K Rajagopal 是本地的资深演员和电影人，他的短片作品《失眠夜》、《强光》、《缺席》等，曾连续3年获得新加坡电影节短片评审大奖，他也参与了电影作品《幸运7》的导演工作。

 

    邓米琪为本地的电影美术指导，她的首部美术指导的电影为《逛街物语》、其他的美术指导作品还有《爱情故事》、《我在政府部门的日子》等。

    “我的创意制作人”为《我的创意房间》(My Creative Room)一书的推介活动之一，《我的创意房间》是由三名本地影评人周文龙、江金玉和杨君伟联合撰写的新书，通过20篇特写，纪录新加坡极富潜质的创意人的灵感心路。《我》旨在让鲜获传媒注意的幕后英雄的努力曝光，公众可在讲座现场以捐款方式‘认领’《我》书（捐款数额不拘，但每本推荐价是18.00新币) 。《我》的所有发行收益一概全额捐赠给非牟利机构新加坡国际电影节2009。

Book Promo Talk: My Creative Writing

What’s the creative process like when writing a script for a movie or a film review? Is there any difference in the different genres of creative writing e.g. news reporting, ads and copywriting, or translation? Come find out about creative writing with the book authors for My Creative Room—a book that feature 20 local creative talents.

 A film critic with a regular review column with major Singapore Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao since 1998, Kam Yoke’s ruminations on film have also filled the pages of magazines, books and webzines.

 

Kam Yoke also directs and writes for television. She has most recently worked on set for feature films and telemovies shot in Singapore and the region including I Not Stupid 2, The Leap Years, Anna & Anna, The Funeral Party, etc.

Chew Boon Leong
a journalist from Lianhe Zaobao. He is a graduate from London Film School and has written feature film script Anna and Anna, which starred Hong Kong award-winning actress Karena Lam. He also wrote the script of Little Rain, a telemovie shot in Shenyang, China.

编写电影剧本或写影评的创意过程是怎么进行？不同形式的写作如新闻、广告文案和翻译等，它们在创意表现方面是否有差异呢？与《我的创意房间》作者一起参与讨论，对创意写作做进一步认识。

在考获新加坡国立大学中文系荣誉学位后，金玉当过新加坡广播电视台华文戏剧组助导，新闻与艺术部新闻官，电影杂志编辑，新加坡国际电影节宣传企划与节目策划。喜欢电影、写作，她目前是联合早报影评专栏作家，并且参与本地多部影视作品的拍摄工作，包括《小孩不笨2》、《誓约》、《安娜与安娜》等。

 

周文龙

 

 

自1996年以来，由文龙所撰写的有关电影与本地文化现象的文章便经常见报。目前任联合早报记者的文龙，于2005年考获伦敦电影学院电影制作硕士学位。他回国后参与了电影《安娜与安娜》、《小雨》等影视作品的编剧工作。

《酝酿中的房事》

　　近日有位在日本工作，奥地利籍的杂志编辑兼创意人到访。四
处蹓跶观察与本地人交谈了近一周后过来事务所，用午餐时惊叹的
说：“你们竟然有这么多操作健全又持之有恒的戏剧团体！”我望
着他微微地笑，却完全猜透他双眼背后的疑惑：你们不是噤言噤声
，充耳不闻政治时事的一班“乖孩子”吗？

　　这样的形象如何在国外逐渐形成也真不得而晓，或许是久居东
京10年后，他也变得像一般亚洲人对彼此的“私家事”都保持尊重
不多爱过问，不像欧美人常为不同原则或理念动辄互相对喊得脸红
耳赤；亚洲缄默含蓄的社会总也有让自己发出声音的管道：写作、
剧场是其一，电影也是。

　　然而从写作，随年代进展至剧场，再进展至电影为表态的媒体
，正反映了新一代新加坡创作人对现代科技，美学的敏感度。他们
再也不需要用很多的文字来描述，或很长的句子来发泄心中的块垒
，因为转动或凝定的镜头，已经将心中要说的话传达了出来。

　　这又凑巧地和几百年前人们伫足在某一张油画前相同：画里的
光影、空间、人物在他们耳边所说的，又何止眼睛所看到的而已。
许多伤感、忧愁、欢乐、愤怒……尽在不言的画面中。

　　远在1415年的翡冷翠，第一部能摄入图像的针孔箱子样的器材
被发明了——工程师Filipo Brunelleschi用它来准确地描绘广场上
的大教堂，制作透视图。“照相机”因为将影相藏起来的地方像个
黑室，所以意大利语称之为”Camera Obscura”，若直译，是“黑暗
房间”之意。

房里房外的梦想与憧憬

　　然而“房间”，正也是电影工作者、创意人四下收集了资料之
后，理念在脑子里累积得饱满之际，坐下来疾笔如飞让思绪、情感
、场景像江河般滔滔流放出来的第一个空间。往后安排演员、打灯
光、喊“开麦拉！”、转动镜头，不过是重复地将故事立体化，好
让坐在黑暗电影院中的观众，随它赞叹，欢笑，或默默饮泣流泪。

　　周文龙、江金玉和杨君伟合著的《我的创意房间》这本书集合
捕捉的，正是感人情节的源头，或者说创作的第一刻：人孤单坐在
窗旁桌前台灯下，面对假想的未来观众，故事人物，其实真面对的
，是自己最真挚诚恳的那一刻。

　　或许这一刻之后，由于种种原因没机会被拍成电影，或许它成
功开映了，也或许它拍成了差强人意的一件作品；但是在这房间里
，展现的不仅是创作者心路历程开首的第一步，也是他未受资金左
右，将心胸与境界豪放起来，想象空间万马奔腾的一刻。

　　这又仿佛是种“倒序”，从“电影”这媒体，返转越过“戏剧
”，回返至“写作”这一个基本的出发点。我们于是以读者的身份
可以窥视到电影作品里也许不甚明瞭，创作者的心思与背景。

　　驻日的奥地利籍编辑来了又去，两周的新加坡给予他怎么样的
一个印象？当时他也回我微微一笑，没说。我的脑子闪过这本书，
这不正贴切的呈现出一幕幕难以描述的新加坡，以及外人所难以看
到，房里房外的梦想与憧憬？

The Singapore International Film Festival is also getting financial aid from longtime film fans, Lianhe Zaobao journalist Chew Boon Leong, Lianhe Zaobao film critic Kong Kam Yoke and Ngee Ann Polytechnic media lecturer and former deejay Danny Yeo have written a book, My Creative Room, about unsung talents in the local media/film industry. They are contributing all the proceeds from sales of the book, with a suggested price of $18, to the festival.

Those who purchase tickets (priced at $30) for the festival’s opening film Sincerely Yours, about illegal migrant workers who fall in love in Taiwan, will also get a complimentary copy of the book at the door.

“我的创意电影”(华语)讲座

“我的创意电影”讲座

国家图书馆将于这个星期天（3月1日）下午3时，在滨海艺术中心图书馆（Library@esplanade)举办“我的创意电影“讲座。

　　讲座由本地影评人江金玉主持，邀请本地青年电影导演巫俊锋、韩耀光 (writer/director), 电影摄影指导罗佩文，以及电影编剧周文龙，结合本身在新加坡电影圈拍片的经验，探讨本地电影的创意发展。

巫俊锋

只拍八部短片，风头已很健，被圈内誉为最具看头的新生代导演。他的短片《丛林湾》（Tanjong Rhu）参加了柏林影展“世界大观”（Panorama）单元放映，香港的国际短片节IndPanda也曾为他举行个人短片展。

韩耀光

是本地新锐导演，他的作品包括《铁男》和《爱情18克》，曾在法国里昂亚洲影展、波兰Ofensiva国际影展中摘奖。

罗佩文

毕业于西班牙巴塞罗那的电影学院，是本地杰出的女摄影师，她的作品包括《加东赋格曲》、《解散》、《幸运7》，她也是陈小东新电影《看不见的孩子》的摄影指导。

周文龙

为《联合早报》执行级记者，毕业于伦敦电影学院，参与过电影《安娜与安娜》、《小雨》等影视作品的编剧工作。

My Creative Filmmaking (Talk in Mandarin)

National Library Board will be organising the talk “My Creative Filmaking” this coming Sunday (1st March 09) 3pm at Library@esplanade.

Boo Junfeng

one of the most prolific Singaporean short film makers in recent years. His short film “Tanjong Rhu” has participated in the Berlin Film Festival “Panorama” Programme, Hong Kong International Short Film Festival has also put up his short film retrospective recently.

Han Yew Kwang

a writer-director who has worked on several popular TV series. His current feature film works included: Unarmed Combat (2005) which has participated at the Berlin Asia-Pacific Film Festival and 18 Grams of Love which has won the Public Award for Best Film and the Young Jury Award at the 13th Lyon Asian Film Festival.

Sharon Loh

a graduate of Cinematography course, Escola Superior Cinema I Audiovisuales de Catalunya (ESCAC), Barcelona, Spain. Her cinematography works included : “A Family Portrait” , “The Changi Murals” , “Katong Fugue” (2006), “Lucky 7” (2008), “Keluar Baris” (2008). She has just completed her first feature film as Director of Photography, “The Invisible Children” directed by Brian Gothong Tan.

Chew Boon Leong
